Day 24 - Fourth day of thinking about structuring, Colors, remembering Much To-Do About Nothing
Today I had big thoughts, and last night too, they were big thoughts, I almost didn’t even write them down.
i think i found out how i want to frame the book. maybe.
i wrote this blogpost, before, "much to-do about nothing" that i really like. and maybe it is very helpful. it was very helpful to me
it doesn’t even include the chart yet, about pain and
how unbalances always release pain
the book i'm working on is nonfiction, about relationship, monogamous and polyamorous. and i think maybe a frame is that you are *already* doing stuff. are you doing stuff you want to be doing? and then have "colors" of abstract categories that you can choose from to "add" more to your life, sort of. and rebalance around having more stuff you are doing.
Texts to a friend:
“upsetting a balance” is easy
and upsetting a balance releases pain. because the balance in part was made to handle pain
i find that people who make an “intervention” in their lives that stays, have a way to handle the “new pain that comes from the *fact* of making an intervention”
either with money, or family, or a loving spouse, or something else that they attain in order to be able to deal with it
but “upsetting a balance” is different from “destroying” something
I had a drawing of this process once, of things in balance, and then even anything that is objectively an improvement to the system *still* unbalances the system
at least temporarily. But that temporary pain still needs to be handled by something. And it won’t be handled by the existing system, because that system was already balanced, and handling other kinds of pain

i suspect things like family, community, God, helped with this. God when everything else was absent. but then *how* does God help with this also isn’t immediately obvious
in that “how to use god to help with this” i do see as something like an “applied math” versus “pure math” question

Even in the book, the goal, the physicist giving all the advice is “outside the system.” You see the main protagonist going to Jonah for help, as the new person completely outside of everything, and then also talking to his wife, and then this new experience of being forced via unconsensual sign-ups to take his son’s boyscout troupe on a hike, and him having to solve that problem, which gave him loads of new ideas. So that is 3 things outside of the “system” of him and him employees that helped metabolize the “pain” of the changes and pushback from the system that would have encouraged him not through malice just through self-balancing effects to go back to the status quo.

😮
It’s like “free radicals” get released when you unbalance the balanced equation, before a new balance forms, and those free radicals almost definitionally cannot yet be balanced by the system
I made this drawing, with the reminder that the “right level of abstraction will come later.”
There is a tie in to all the layers of legibility stuff from before, in that is “what you do in a day” or “what you do with your partner” legible to you?
And then the frame of the book can be about just **having different things you are doing** and “adding colors to your plate” the way they tell you to add different colors of fruits and vegetables to your plate when you eat
