The past few days I have consolidated two storage units. Some thoughts:
My role in UHauls is to be a spider monkey. I can climb everything, climb everywhere!
I know now what the step up exercises are for in real life. They are for stepping up into the inside of a Uhaul, over and over
I keep making typos since then, which I don’t know why, perhaps exhaustion of a new kind, perhaps this keyboard
I thought I would be horrified by my random stupid bullshit, the quantity of it, the amounts I shouldn’t even keep and should give away
I was astounded by my lack of stupid bullshit, the lack of acquired objects, that moving a lot over the past 10 years I actually did keep an eye on not acquiring too much
I own little treasures from travels
I own stuffed animal sea creatures
I have a few boxes of “important papers”
I have a desktop computer and a monitor
I have a lot of bags of old clothes
Any clothing that I ever liked that ever looked good on me I wouldn’t have ever thrown away or given away. I may want to change my relationship to my old clothes, keep only the ones I remember, or think about. I had a friend once who helped me clean my room as a birthday present, on my 29th birthday, with her super bespoke special system that she learned from her own friend, and as she was going through my things she said she could feel which clothes were my clothes, which ones I really loved, which ones were mine, and which one weren’t, which were just clothes I had.
I have shoes that are really good
I have a lot of shoes that are extremely meh, but were cheap and I needed shoes of a certain kind, but they were meh enough that I eventually did buy another pair of shoes. But all the shoes have been worn to something and were right for the occasion
I keep all cards and handwritten notes. Those do not take up much space and can never be made again. Why would I throw those away?
Things I do not own
I do not own a camera. I love photography and I love cameras. I do not own a camera
I do not have many special “treasured books.” I haven’t really been gifted books, and when I have many weren’t really special, not really about me. A lot of “special books” are special not because they were gifts but because they were given to me, or I was excited to spend money on some special book as a reward. Many of the books I own I either got for free somewhere, or got very cheap somewhere — but many of the books that I consider my books I had bought because you cannot get them in a library. They are not common, and I had gotten it for some very specific reason either for personal research or for joining a group book club or group research project.
I do have a few special gift books, one from a best friend, a few from a professor and those are special because they are from him and because they are expensive.
I would like more special treasured books. It also is nice to have books I can sign and give away, and it becomes a special treasured book to somebody else. But also I do want special treasured books for myself.
